Zayed Charity Run activities begin in Budapest ahead of Sunday race
Field visits strengthen ties with Hungarian heritage and institutions
ABU DHABI/BUDAPEST – The organising committee of the Zayed Charity Run has officially launched its programme of activities in Budapest, marking the beginning of events ahead of the main race scheduled for Sunday.
The launch took place at the House of Music in the Hungarian capital, setting the tone for a weekend that blends sport, culture and humanitarian engagement.
The race will be held at Heroes’ Square and will feature three categories covering 3km, 5km and 10km distances, bringing together participants from different backgrounds in a shared sporting and charitable environment. Preparations are underway across the city to ensure smooth organisation of the event and its supporting activities.
Field visits
As part of the wider programme, the organising committee has been conducting field visits across Budapest to strengthen cultural ties with Hungarian society. The delegation visited the Museum of Ethnography and the race venue in Városliget Park, where preparations for the routes and event facilities were reviewed in detail.
These visits also form part of efforts to integrate cultural understanding into the broader mission of the run, ensuring that the initiative extends beyond sport into meaningful social engagement.
Heritage tour
The delegation further visited Buda Castle, one of Hungary’s most historic landmarks, to gain deeper insight into the country’s cultural and historical heritage. The experience formed part of a wider effort to connect the visiting team with the identity and traditions of the host nation.
Lieutenant General (r) Mohammed Hilal Al Kaabi, Chairman of the Higher Organising Committee of the Zayed Charity Run, said the visits represent a key element of the initiative’s approach.
He noted that the programme reflects the UAE’s vision of building bridges of humanitarian and cultural communication with communities around the world, highlighting that participation in Budapest goes beyond the sporting aspect alone.
According to him, the initiative is designed to promote respect, understanding and cooperation between nations, reinforcing the Zayed Charity Run’s position as a global platform where sport, culture and humanitarian values intersect.
